Garmin connect?

I love this site, it's been great to be able to use to quickly plan longer routes in areas I dont know knowing it will pick the quietest country track and cycle paths however my Garmin is not in agreement :( 

I've tried downloading as 'TCX activity (best for Garmin Connect)' and my connect wont accept it and using gpx it doesn't pick up the course in order to be able to give me proper directions (I spend my ride just watching the map for turnings). I can import 'TCX course (best for new Garmin/Wahoo)' but not tried a ride with it yet. 

Has anyone else had similar issues and what's best to use to combine this site and Garmin cycle computer?
