A question that I shouldn't have to ask, but it has been a while since I was last able to tour and I have become rusty in those skills.
I want to create a route but somehow when I click on the starting point and then the finish point I end up with a star at the finishng point. I have no idea what it means or how to remove it and would appreciate some advice.

Possibly you have created a marker for which the default symbol is a star.
Perhaps try zooming in at that position, and click on the symbol. You should have the option to edit then delete the marker.
Bob - I guess that when you selected the intended end point on the map, you did a right-click on the mouse - it opens the Marker menu, defaulting to the star, and you saved that.
To create a point on your route (whether a start, a via or an end), a left-click is your friend...
(Reg's response shows how to get rid of your unintended star.)
