Sharing routes

Hi, A friend and I are planning next years trips and as we are both users of Cycle Travel it makes sense for us to both be able to view and edit the same routes. I appreciate routes can be made public with which I have no issue but it would be good to set up a folder with various journey options within and just share the folder so any edits will be clear. It can be done in G****e Maps but that functionality is obviously not as good as Cycle Travel.

Thanks

That's not possible at the moment, as far as I know. Also, it's a potential nightmare if two people are editing the same route at the same time.

Sharing the URL will allow your friend access your route and vice versa. However, to edit it, they'll need to save it, edit it and reshare the new URL.

Two useful features, if you're not aware are the 'Display folder as a map' (all routes in one folder displayed on one map) and the trace function which would allow you to say, download your friend's version and overlay it against yours. Any differences would be pretty obvious.

Hobbes, thanks for reply, it is not important that we both have editing rights but just to see a number of routes summarised in the folder is fine. Editing would have been be a bonus.

SFAIAA, sharing the URL is only possible for a given route, and sharing the URL for a folder of routes does not work. So, unless Hobbes can say how a folder can be shared - which would be good to know - sharing a collection of routes is a matter of sending one's friend each of the URLs, route by route.

(Related, in case of relevance: in the app, routes can be shared with friends just by giving them the reference number, so long as the route is public. (With the route open in the app's map, see Save > Send to friends) They can then save the routes as Journeys in their own CT account.

I can't ... and I didn't. :-) I merely suggested two functions that could help in a scenario where two (or more) users were sharing routes that were in development.

I think this is a really interesting idea. I can’t promise it’ll be immediate but I’ll try to implement some form of shared folder sooner rather than later.
