This route of two halves takes a tour through East Yorkshire (flat) and the North York Moors (decidedly not so). From the coast at Hornsea to York it's easy cycling - long railway paths into Hull and York are linked by a quiet-lane ride along the Humber and Ouse valley. After York, the climbing begins as the route ventures into the North York Moors, mostly on narrow lanes but with the occasional forest track. The route ends by the Tees at Middlesbrough, and you could combine it with NCN 1 along the coast for a week's circular ride. There are low-level and high-level route options in the Wolds (routes 657 and 656 respectively).
