The Heads of the Valleys cycle route is a magnificent journey following the line that separates the South Wales Valleys from the Brecon Beacons. The unique landscape, almost lunar at times, combines remnants of industry with dramatic moorlands and narrow valleys. Starting at Neath, near Swansea, the route heads to Abergavenny via railway paths, new cycleways, quiet roads and canal towpaths. The path through the Clydach Gorge, shortly before Abergavenny, is undoubtedly one of Wales's most scenic. After Abergavenny, the route becomes a fairly hilly country lane route to Hereford.
