Has anyone planned a trip of 100 miles or so using the ‘gravel’ setting? Can I trust the off road sections to not be private? I’ve not used this setting to plan a route yet but want to do Sheffield to Rutland in a couple of weeks as a bikepacking ride.

It’s not 100% infallible but it should be pretty reliable. cycle.travel has a significant difference to many other route-planners in how it works out access rights in the UK, so it should avoid the private farm track issue that some suffer from. I’d suggest double-checking any sections marked as ‘service road’ – cycle.travel does try to avoid these but occasionally they slip through, and these can sometimes be private farm access roads.
That’s very helpful Richard. I will give it a go. Thank you.
