Is there any way to plan a route and specify multiple destinations along the way? I have saved one route to one village from home then another route from that village to the next one I want to get to.
However I know that my Garmin touring will write over the second route as soon as I try to ride the first one.

You could plan a route from A to C, and then drag the route line so that it goes via B - a little blue marker appears when you do that. Would that work for you?
